Call for Papers

The 2012 Brazilian Symposium on Bioinformatics (BSB 2012) is an international conference which covers all aspects of bioinformatics and computational biology. BSB 2012 is organized by the special interest group in computational biology of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC). Since 2005 the BSB proceedings have been published in the series Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics by Springer Verlag.

**Special issue** For BSB 2012, authors of selected best papers will be invited to submit significantly extended and revised versions to a special issue of the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics.

BSB 2012 is now an affiliated conference of the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB).  Like SBC members, ISCB members will receive a discount of about 14% on their registration fees.

Manuscript Preparation

The submissions should contain original, high quality, not submitted or published elsewhere work. ALL manuscripts MUST be written in ENGLISH and include an abstract.

The format to be used is "Lecture Notes in Computer Science" (LNCS). All the explanations and necessary files for this format (in Latex or Word) can be found at http://www.springer.com/lncs. We strongly recommend all prospective authors to download the necessary files from this site as they prepare their submissions for BSB 2012; old versions of the LNCS style files could cause problems in the upload of the camera-ready paper.

Categories of Contributions/Manuscripts

BSB2012 will accept two different categories of contributions:

- Full papers --- from 6 to 12 pages LNCS style, oral presentation.
- Short papers ---  6 pages LNCS style, poster presentation.

For full papers, manuscript length (including all figures, tables, and references) should not exceed 12 pages.  For short papers, manuscript length (including all figures, tables, and references) should not exceed 6 pages.

Manuscripts that deviate significantly from these guidelines may risk rejection without consideration of scientific merit.

The deadline for full paper upload is *March 26, 23:55 BRST.* *** EXTENDED ***
The deadline for short paper upload is *June 25, 23:55 BRST.*

Manuscript Submission

Paper (manuscript) submission will be exclusively online through the JEMS system. Authors should access https://jems.sbc.org.br/bsb2012.

PLEASE, the authors must indicate the track *full paper* or *short paper* of their manuscript.

All submitted papers (full or short papers) will be reviewed by at least two experts in the field.

Submission Policy

By submitting a full paper to BSB 2012, the authors agree that in case of acceptance at least one author registers to the conference and presents the paper. Furthermore, it is the conference policy that at least one of the authors of accepted full paper has to register **at most by May 25**.

Publication

All accepted *full papers* will be included in the proceedings that, as in the past BSB editions, should be published by the Springer Verlag in the series Lecture Notes in Computer Science/Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics (LNCS/LNBI). All accepted *short papers* will be included in a CD-ROM with ISBN (Digital Proceedings) that will available during the Event.

**Special issue** For BSB 2012, authors of selected best papers will be invited to submit significantly extended and revised versions to a special issue of the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics.
