BSB & EBB 2012 Venue

The 7th Brazilian Symposium on Bioinformatics (BSB 2012) will be held jointly with the 5th Brazilian School on Bioinformatics (EBB - Escola Brasileira de Bioinformática) in Campo Grande, MS, Brazil, August 13 August 17, 2012.

UFMS

Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul) - UFMS - was created in 1962. Faculty is composed by 1,100 professors, serving about 100 undergraduate courses with more than 14,000 students and 35 graduate programs with more than 2,000 students. Besides the city of Campo Grande, capital of Mato Grosso do Sul, UFMS has campuses installed in other 10 cities in the state: Aquidauana, Bonito, Chapadão do Sul, Corumbá, Coxim, Naviraí, Nova Andradina, Paranaíba, Ponta Porã e Três Lagoas.

Mato Grosso do Sul is in the center of South Ametica. Neighboring Brazilian states are Mato Grosso, Goiás, Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Paraná. Is also borders the countries of Paraguay and Bolivia. The state is famous for its natural beauty. The Pantanal is the world biggest swamp (more than 140,000 km2). During rainy season (December to April), around 80% of the whole area is flooded and one of the highest variety of water plants in the world is uncovered. On the other hand, the city of Bonito, in the Bodoquena montain, has prehistoric caverns, natural rivers, waterfalls and swimming pools, and also the Blue Lake Cavern.
 

Facom-UFMS

College of Computing (Faculdade de Computação) - Facom - at UFMS, formely Department of Computing, was created in 1992. Nowadays it offers a graduate program and five undergraduate courses in the following Computer Science areas: Information System, Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Computer Networks, and supporting about 1200 students. The faculty and staff is composed by 50 people. Research groups cover Parallel and Distributed Algorithms, Combinatorial Optimization, Graph Theory, Dstributed Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Geometry, Software Engeneering, Computer Graphics, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Computer Architecture, keeping strong colaborative research works with several national and international institutions.

 

Dom Bosco Museum (Museu das Culturas Dom Bosco)

Dom Bosco Museum of Cultures, an institution linked to the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research of Dom Bosco Catholic University in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, is constituted as a memory unit, research and scientific exchange, to promote and integrate interdisciplinary studies and research aiming reconstruction of historical and cultural memories. The museum provides bibliographic and documentary collections, caring for their restoration, organization, storage and dissemination, developing activities for production, preservation, dissemination and discussion of historical memory; give technical and scientific support, within its purposes, developing programs, projects and initiatives that use cultural heritage as an educational and social inclusion.
